    April 16, 2015

Sri Lanka's national carrier, SriLankan Airlines has increased its flight frequency to Chennai by adding a fourth flight from Colombo to the Southern Indian city. The new service will be operational from today (16).

The addition of this flight brings the total frequency of flights between Sri Lanka and India to 86 flights per week.

The purpose of re-launching these flights is to increase frequency of the airline, providing passengers with added convenience, the carrier said in a statement.

The announcement reinforces the significance of the Indian market and specifically Chennai for the airline.

Commenting on the occasion, Saminda Perera, General Manager Sales Worldwide stated, "Chennai is a key market for us and one of the fastest growing cities in Southern India. While we have always received a strong response from this market, Chennai serves as a key business hub for all multinational corporations. This daily flight will cater to growing business, corporate and leisure demand between Sri Lanka and Chennai."

He further added, "The increased frequency also reinforces our commitment to Chennai and will strengthen the deep commercial and bilateral ties between India & Sri Lanka."

Regional Manager for India, Lalith De Silva said: "Our passengers have welcomed the news that SriLankan Airlines will increase its frequency to the city. With over 225,000 arrivals on SriLankan Airlines from Chennai to Colombo in the past year, the daily flight will appeal to both business and leisure customers providing them with better connectivity to destinations beyond Sri Lanka and more options for their travel convenience."
