This year the state Wesak Festival will be held at Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya in Badulla district on May 3rd.

Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, Local Government and Democratic Governance Karu Jayasuriya said the state Wesak festival will be conducted centering the Mahiyangana Raja Maha Viharaya on May 03 and Wesak celebrations will be held under the theme "Cultivate Compassion".

A Wesak Commemoration stamp will be released on the 20th of this month.

The sale of liquor and meat is prohibited in Supermarkets on the Wesak days and the officials are instructed to ensure that slaughter houses, bookies, casinos, nightclubs and fish and meat stalls closed on these two days.
