Disabled Allowance even beyond 55 years

    April 15, 2015

State Minister Ruwan Wijeyawardena has said that the disabled allowance would be paid to the soldiers who became disabled during the fight for the freedom of the country, even after 55 years of age.

He expressed these views following discussions with disabled soldiers at the Watupitiwala disabled soldiers village.

According to the present system, the disabled allowance is discontinued when the soldier retires. He would only get a pension entitled to his rank. Considering the problems faced by them, State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijayawardena said that the disabled soldiers would be paid the disabled allowance, even after their retirement.

State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijayawardena said that the Cabinet Paper has been prepared and the approval should be sought from the President. He said that once the President approves it, it will be presented to the Cabinet for the approval.
