The country’s first Open Air Zoological Gardens is scheduled to be declared open on April 17. It has come up adjacent to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.
This Open Air Zoo has been constructed targeting the promotion of tourism industry. It spans 44 acres. Noteworthy is the allocation of the Zoo for animals endemic to the country.
Animals such as leopard, bears, deer and crocodiles will be conserved and an opportunity is afforded to observe their movements.
The expenditure incurred on the Pinnawala Open Air Zoo is 862 million rupees.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
