The Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage has taken steps to implement a project to rehabilitate the existing Barawakumbuka-Rote and Weerakeyiya (Muruthawela Water Supply Scheme) in Hambanthota District and Augmentation of Deniyaya, Urubokka Water Supply Schemes and construction of a new water supply scheme at Morawaka replacing the existing Pradeshiya Sabha scheme in Matara District.
The proposed project will provide pipe borne water to the population living in Grama Niladari Divisions under the project areas and also improve the service level of the population already served by the existing water supply schemes which currently supply water only for a few hours per day.
