New treatment method helps heart attack patients - Report

    October 08, 2014

Paramedics in the Australian state of New South Wales are employing new technology to save heart attack patients. Experts are describing a pilot programme as a medical breakthrough and hope it will lead to an overhaul of the way medics respond to heart attack patients.

Cardiovascular disease kills one Australian every 10 minutes. And the fight to save a heart attack patient is a race against time. Life-saving cardiac therapy is traditionally delivered in hospital under the watchful eyes of a heart specialist, but the Ambulance Service of New South Wales says faster access to treatment is crucial to saving lives. It has found a way to empower paramedics to administer treatment for heart attack patients the moment they arrive on the scene.
