    Sri Lanka’s new Ambassador to Republic of Iraq presents Credentials

    Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Republic of Iraq, Major General (Rtd) Niranjan Asoka Ranasinghe presented his Credentials to Fuad Masum, President of the Republic of Iraq on 30th August 2016 at the Presidential Palace in Baghdad. The Ambassador was accompanied by M.Y.M. Rizab, Attaché of the Embassy and Ali Dhafer the official Translator of the Mission.

    Following the Credentials ceremony, the Ambassador was given an audience with the President of the Republic of Iraq. The Ambassador conveyed the greetings and best wishes from the President of Sri Lanka to the President of Iraq. In turn the President requested the Ambassador to convey his greetings and best wishes to Maithripala Sirisena, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

     

    The Ambassador thereafter briefed the President of Iraq about the many significant developments that have taken place in Sri Lanka since January 2015, under the leadership of the President Maithripala Sirisena  and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

     

    The President of Iraq commended on the significant progress made by Sri Lanka in various fields, under the new Government. The discussion focused on further strengthening the strong ties that exist between the two countries at present.

     

    The Ambassador thanked Fuad Masum for the goodwill and valuable support that the Republic of Iraq had shown towards Sri Lanka in the past and assured Sri Lanka’s continued support for the Republic of Iraq in the future too.
