    Minimum wage of migrant workers increased to USD 300 from January 2017

    The minimum wage of a migrant worker will be increased to USD 300 from January 2017 said the Minister of Foreign Employment Thalatha Athukorala.

    Minister Athukorala said that she is briefing other countries about increasing the minimum wage while some countries have signed agreements in agreement.

    She said that for migrant workers who are not entitled for the worker insurance scheme or persons who have worked exceeding their insurance were paid compensation through the Migrant worker welfare scheme. Under this scheme Rs 54 million was paid to dependents of 33 persons who were dead or disabled.
