The President said even though some politicians in Sri Lanka, who lacks the political experiences, spread false propaganda among the people by saying that the government is trapped in international conspiracies, the emerging new political culture in the country will provide a clear answer to the public as well as to the international community regarding those claims.
He made these observations participating at the swearing in ceremony of the new State and Deputy Ministers of the national government at the Presidential Secretariat Wednesday (Sept. 9).
The President further said that he will never bow down to any foreign pressures as well as he will not allow anyone to tarnish the image of Sri Lanka.
"We all must set aside all the narrow political agendas and we should follow our consciences, when we think of our people and the country," the President said.
For the next five years we provide a strong Government and no one will be able to topple that Government, the President further said.
"Do not ever think that this government can be toppled or weakened. Till 2020 this government will be stable and strong," he said.
Rajapaksa loyalists in the former ruling party, United People's Freedom Alliance, who were dissatisfied with the decision to appoint Tamil party TNA leader R. Sampanthan as the Opposition Leader, are reportedly planning a move to form a new opposition and ask the Speaker to recognize it.
The President further told the lawmakers that everyone must commit themselves to utilize their knowledge, wisdom and experiences to build the country.
"It is the responsibility of everyone to perform their duties in a way that no one will be able to blame them for misusing state resources and for corruption," the President said adding that he believes everyone will discharge their duties in a perfectly satisfactory manner.
