    Work with Consensus - President tells newly elected SLFP members

    A special meeting between President Maithripala Sirisena and the newly elected members to the Parliament from Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) was held on Thursday (Aug. 20) at the Presidential Secretariat.

    The meeting was organized to congratulate the SLFP members newly elected to the Parliament and discuss about current political developments and future course of action.

     

    The President pointed out that the responsibility of the SLFP is to recognize the current requirements of the country and work for the betterment of the country. He said every action should be taken targeting the victory of the country and the people.

     

    President Sirisena also stated that the SLFP should take correct political actions on national and international issues and other challenges which may arise in the country. He emphasized that the country and the people could be taken through a victorious path only by working with consensus. He also pointed out the best action for achieving that objective is to work as a single united government.

     

    The President requested the new members of parliament to prepare a report, consisting of the ideas of the SLFP on working as a National Government in the future. A committee chaired by John Seneviratne was also appointed in this regard. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya will be the Secretary of the committee.

     

    Senior members of the SLFP also participated in this meeting.
