Drinking water would value more than human blood in the future - President Featured

    June 17, 2015

It is the scientific view that water which is vital for the existence of all animals, will receive more value than human blood. As such it is more important for everyone to work together for the proper management of the water resources, President Maithripala Sirisena said inaugurating the South Asian Students Conference, yesterday.

The theme of the two-day Conference is “Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.” The conference is being jointly organized by the Ministries of Education, Urban Development, Water Supply and Drainage and Health. About 600 students representing South Asian countries such as Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan and Bangladesh are participating in this conference taking place at 'Ape Gama' in Battaramulla from June 16-17.

A memento was presented to the President at the function.

Further addressing the conference, the President underscored the need for streamlined water management as drinking water would receive more value than human blood in the future. Therefore is necessary to properly manage water for the existence of the human being. Water should not be allowed to flow from the hill country to the sea and wasted. The rain water received by the country is sufficient for even 10 other countries. But the country also experiences drought. As such the President said that the shortcomings in water management should be overcome to face such calamities. Ministers Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and Rauf Hakeem also expressed their views on this occasion. Many Parliamentarians were present on the occasion.
