He said this after receiving a Srimahabodhi sapling from President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (May 28).
The President said the Srimahabodhi sapling symbolizes the Buddha and he said that it was a great privilege for him to present such a sacred gift and participate in this meritorious deed. He said the people are not happy despite technological advancements and the teachings of the Buddha show the way for the people to live in contentment.
He thanked Korean Republic for assisting Sri Lanka in health, education, drinking water, agriculture and many other areas.
Venerable Yongdam said it is important to further expand the relationship between Sri Lanka and Korea as its main focus is to provide benefits to the people.
Mahanayake of Western Province Ven Nagoda Amarawansa Nayake Thero and several monks participated at the ceremony.
