Right to elect a Prime Minister lies with the public Featured

    May 14, 2015

The right to elect a Prime Minister lies with the public regardless of various claims made by political parties, President Maithripala Sirisena said.

The President addressing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party convention in Bandaragama on Wednesday (13) emphasised that party discussions are important to work unitedly but adding conditions for discussions should be set aside. He pointed out that public cannot be served on conditions.

He further added that a Prime Minister will be elected from the party that gets highest votes, and not before that.

Those present on the occasion were Parliamentarians representing the Kalutara District including Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva, SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Ministers Rajitha Senarathne, Ratnasiri Wickremanayake, Susil Premajayantha, Mahinda Samarasinghe, Kumara Welgama, Nirmala Kothalawala, Reginald Cooray and Vidura Wickremanayake.
