    Maithripala Sirisena, as Sri Lanka's President makes his first appearance in Parliament Featured

    The Parliament presided by Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa met at 1.00 pm on Tuesday (20) for the first time for 2015 under the new President, Prime Minister and Cabinet of Ministers. President Maithripala Sirisena entered the Parliament at around 1 pm. Parliamentarians gave a rousing welcome to the President by thumping on desks.

    Speaker Rajapaksa acknowledged the new appointment of Lakshman Kiriella as the Leader of the House, Gayantha Karunathilake as the Chief Government Whip, Nimal Siripala de Silva as the Opposition Leader and W.D.J. Seneviratne as the Chief Opposition Whip.

     

    Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe addressed the House followed by Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala and other party leaders.

     

    President Maithripala Sirisena left the chamber after listening to the speeches of the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader.
