The Government launched the programme of building houses for families who are living with less-facilities. These new houses are equipped with all essential facilities to provide shelter for families living in underserved settlements. The programme has been mooted under the concept of granting a house for every family based on the Mahinda Chintana. Accordingly this Housing Scheme was launched under the guidance of Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa
"Methsara Uyana' and 'Sirisarana Uynana' housing complex consists of 1,148 houses in a 12-storey building. The Methsara Uyana Housing complex consists of 718 houses while the Sirisara Uyana Housing complex consists of 480 houses.
Each house built at a cost of Rs.8 million has a floor space area of 450 square feet and is equipped with two bedrooms, a living room, a balcony and modern sanitary facilities. The Scheme has 366 housing units with these facilities. These housing complexes are having all infrastructure facilities in international standards.
The President /vesting these housing complexes with the people, symbolically handed over deeds to the house recipients.
Among the large gathering present at this function were Chief Incumbent of Hunupitiya Gangarama Vihara Ven.Galaboda Gnaneeeswara Thero, Senior Ministers and many Parliamentarians.(KH)
