The “Lakmuthu Sevana” housing scheme provides fully equipped and permanent homes to families who earlier lived in makeshift settlements in the city. Each housing unit has a value of Rs.8 million and the total cost of the project is Rs.850 million (approx.).
The scheme has been built by the UDA which comes under the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development under the purview of Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
Ministers Susil Premajayantha, Dinesh Gunewardene, Wimal Weerawansa, Jeevan Kumaranatunge, Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Tri-Forces commanders, the IGP, Western Province Governor Alavi Moulana, MP's A.H.M.Azwer, Thilanga Sumathipala, Duminda Silva, newly appointed SLFP organizer for Colmbo East Pradeep Gunewardene, and UDA officials were present on the occasion.(KH)
