President joins official inauguration of Sri Lanka Engineers Professional Association Featured

    October 08, 2014

The Government has changed the era in which priority had been given to destruction rather than constructions. He said there was a 30 year long period when Sri Lanka witnessed how the buildings constructed by the Engineers were devastated. How the A-9 Highway, the Kankesanthurai Sugar Factory, the Central Bank and the Kolonnawa Fuel tank complex were destroyed. Another era witnessed how the so-called revolutionaries devastated transformers. But the present government launched massive constructions overcoming these destructions within a short peirod since gaining freedom from the clutches of brutal terrorism, the President added.

The President was speaking at the official inaugural sessions of the Sri Lanka Engineers Professional Association. The Sri Lanka Engineers Professional Association was launched in July this year on behalf of uplifting the industrial relations and professional standards of the Sri Lanka Engineering Professionals.

The President further said that with large scale projects such as Harbours, Airports, Expressways and Power Plants being launched in addition rebuilding of bridges that were destroyed in the North and East, it is not necessary to mention that this is an era which is of significance to Engineers.

Senior Minister P. Dayaratne, Parliamentarian Kanaka Herath, President of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka, Shavindranath Fernando, the President Professional Engineers Association and Secretary to the Ministry of Highways, Ports and Shipping Ranjith Premasiri were among those present on the occasion.(KH)
