The President also said despite these developments, there are elements who not only find fault with whatever the government does but also spread canards for mere political gain. He urged the people not to fall prey to the rumours spread by these elements and to have faith in the government.
Renovation work on the 34 km stretch of road from Beragala to Wellawaya on the Colombo-Ratnapura-Batticaloa (A004) commenced on Saturday (13) with the participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
This stretch of road which is narrow with many sharp bends is to be developed as a two lane carpeted road. This road development project is being implemented in accordance with the Mahinda Chinthana Vision for the Future by the Highways Ministry and the Road Development Authority.
The Colombo-Ratnapura-Batticaloa route via Balangoda, Beragala, Koslanda, Wellawaya, Siyambalanduwa, Puttuvil, Akkaraipattu is a main road which connects Southern, Western and Central Provinces.
The government has given priority in developing the rural roads in Kataragama, Buttala, Wellawaya, Thanamalvila and Sevanagala Divisional Secretariat Divisions.
Senior Minister A.H.M.Fowzie, Ministers Nirmala Kothalawala, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Lakshman Wasantha Perera, Sabaragamuwa Province Governor W.J.M.Lokubandara, Parliamentarians Uditha Lokubandara, Lohan Ratwatte and Kamala Ranatunga were present. (KH)
