Do not treat requests of Peoples' Representatives as political mediation - President

    April 08, 2014

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has requested all Ministry Secretaries not to consider the requests of the peoples' representatives as political interferences. He has also informed to give prominence to such requests.

The Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga has informed of this decision in writing to all Ministry Secretaries. The Secretary to the President has stated that the President has received reports to the effect that the requests of the public sent through the peoples' representatives including Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament to Ministry Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Corporations and Statutory Boards are often treated as political mediation. Therefore due to this negative attitude, the requests made by peoples' representatives are being ignored.

The President has pointed out that the peoples' representatives have a responsibility to submit the requests of the public to heads of public institutions and as such these requests should be given prominence.
