He made these remarks participating at a conference on national unity at the BMICH in Colombo on Monday (07).
President Rajapaksa said that the occasion Sri Lanka clinched the T20 World Cup 2014 could be given as an example where Sri Lanka's national unity was displayed. There were no differences in religion or ethnicity every Sri Lankan in the north, east, south, west and in the hill country joined hands in celebrating this event. This displayed national unity and showed their feelings towards the motherland, the President pointed out.
President Rajapaksa further said that the concept of human rights followed by the Sri Lankan people was more enriched than any other present day human rights charters.
Minister Wasudeva Nanayakkara presented the peoples manifesto for national unity prepared by the Ministry of National Languages and Social integration to the President.
Senior Ministers DEW Gunasekara and Prof. Tissa Vitharana, Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Douglas Devananda and Rauf Hakeem, Deputy Minister Muttu Sivalingam and Secretary to the Ministry of National Languages and Social Integration Malkanthi Wickremasinghe were present on the occasion.
