    "Movement will be restricted without causing any inconvenience to essential services" - Co-cabinet Spokesman Minister Udaya Gammanpila

    Co-cabinet Spokesman Minister Udaya Gammanpila affirmed that the restrictions imposed on travel between provinces is already in force at the moment and it will be in force until the 30th of May.

    The Minister said this while responding to a question raised by a journalist regarding the restrictions imposed on travel between provinces at the cabinet decision media briefing held today (11) at the Department of Government Information.

    Minister Gammanpila highlighted that further details of the travel restrictions will be released soon and that the government's policy is that movement will be restricted without causing any inconvenience to essential services, export-oriented industries, and sectors like agriculture and fisheries. Therefore, these sectors will be operative amidst travel restrictions.

    In addition, he mentioned that discussions have not yet been held to decide in detail how the government will implement these restrictions as it is still at the experimental stage. However, in most of the cases, the authorities will be considered case by case and decide whether they are essential services or not rather than making a blanket policy for the entire country and all the service sectors at once.

    Moreover, the Minister said that today the President's Spokesman Kingsly Rathnayaka will deliver an in-detailed assertion on the travel restrictions.
