    Rs. 575 million for the development of the Botanic Gardens this year

    A program is being set up to improve financial and marketing facilities for gardeners throughout the country and the Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga asserted that the Department of National Botanic Gardens will implement it as per his instructions.

    Under this, it is expected to organize the farmers engaged in floriculture, provide technical knowledge to the organized growers, provide high quality planting material, provide high quality imported flowering plants and infrastructure facilities, and establish market links for floriculture growers.

    In addition, training programs are expected to be implemented to empower growers by enhancing their knowledge and skills in floriculture and the Minster said it is planned to set up and upgrade flower and plant stalls in all the botanical gardens.

    Meanwhile, the government has allocated Rs. 575.48 million for the development of infrastructure facilities at the Botanic Gardens this year, said Minister Prasanna Ranatunga. Accordingly, these provisions have been allocated for the development of Botanic Gardens' entrances, the provision of drinking water facilities for visitors, new restaurants, the use of battery cars for the convenience of easy access to the visitors , as well as programs for the development of knowledge in this particular field among the general public.

    Minister Ranatunga further notified that, during the first quarter of this year, 185,864 locals and 1,104 tourists have visited the Peradeniya, Haggala, Gampaha, Mirijjawila, Avissawella and Ganewatta Botanic Gardens.
