Considering the world situation, Sri Lanka has set an example – Health Minister

    March 26, 2020

Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi said at the media briefing today that not a single COVID-19 positive patient was reported during the first half of the day (25), setting an example to the whole world. However, she said that maintaining distance in the future too was vital in keeping the Coronavirus at bay.

The minister further noted at the National Operation Centre for the Prevention of Covid-19 today that despite repeated appeals some people are still not paying attention to health warnings and are congregating.

She said that some employees at pharmacies and the cleaning staff of the Colombo Municipality were engaging in their work without observing the safe distance rule. This situation, she said could make the situation take a turn for the worse.

Therefore, she urged the public to follow the guidelines given to them by the health authorities on the directions of the President who has taken every measure possible to ensure the safety of the people.
Minister Wanniarachchi noted that in comparison to countries such as Italy, Sri Lanka is in a far better situation as the government has taken strict measures to arrest the spread of the Coronavirus.

Hence, the minister urged the public to always maintain a distance of about a meter and wash hands with soap when entering their homes and to maintain proper hygiene.
