President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has instructed the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) to provide free internet facilities for university students who have registered for e-learning system to carry out their education without obstruction.
The details of the students have been forwarded to the TRC through the relevant university administration and University Grants Commission (UGC).
According to its Director General, measures will be taken to commence the programme from tomorrow.
The free internet services will be provided only until the situation normalises.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
News.lk publishes in three languages – Sinhala, Tamil and English.
