The House was debating a motion moved by UPFA MP Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle on allegations against Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne. The debate had commenced around 11.30 am and time had been allocated for the debate until 6.30 pm.

While the debate was in progress UNP MP Prof Ashu Marasinghe pointed out that the motion for the debate was moved by the Opposition but there were no opposition MPs in the House to support their motion and it was pointless to continue the debate as there were only five MPs in the Chamber from both sides. He called on the Chair to ring the quorum bell and summon MPs as it was required to have at least 20 MPs for the minimum quorum for sessions.

Accordingly, the presiding Member, UNP Colombo district MP Mujibur Rahuman, rang the quorum bell. In response to the call four more MPs turned up in the Chamber. MP Rahuman noted that there was a shortfall of 13 MPs to complete the quorum and, therefore, announced the adjournment of sittings until 1 pm on July 23.
