PM: ‘PSC will reveal truth of Easter terror incidents’ Featured

    July 13, 2019

The truth behind the Easter Sunday bomb attacks will be revealed through the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) probing the incident and the case which has been filed in the courts, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said yeserday. Making a special statement at his ‘Temple Trees’ office yesterday, the Premier said that the court had accepted the legality of the PSC despite various opinions by some individuals.

“We have nothing to hide. Therefore, I am not afraid to go before the Committee,” he said adding that he would sit before the PSC to give evidence as per the summons he had received.“We first launched operations to detect the terrorists. We were able to make it a success. Next, we appointed a Parliamentary Select Committee to look into the miscommunication of the intelligence information,” he said.

According to him, the miscommunication of the intelligence information and the failure of the National Security Council to pay attention to the intelligence information, was a problem. The Premier said that they were not revealing the truth to target any individual or political parties, but to take action to prevent the repetition of such incidents in the future.

He also said the Government hoped to pass new laws with regard to the eradication of global terrorism and to enable work in collaboration with international intelligence agencies for this purpose. PM Wickremesinghe also pointed out that the No-Confidence Motion moved against the government had been defeated with a good majority as the Parliament had already decided that the accusations in the motion were baseless.

“We were also able to reveal a lot of important information during the debate on this No-Confidence Motion”, PM said. “What we need is to lay the foundation to prevent the recurrence of such terror activities. We must do it for the future sake of the country and the nation,” the Prime Minister said stressing that if not it would be a betrayal of the country.
