    109 Naval teams in relief operations

    Sri Lanka Navy has deployed over 109 relief, search, and rescue teams comprising 643 naval personnel along with 109 relief boats in affected areas in the Southern and Western provinces by today, navy media sources said.

    Accordingly, 45 and 64 flood relief and rescue teams have been deployed in the Southern and Western Provinces respectively.

     

    Report said that, naval rescue teams are currently deployed at Neluwa, Imaduwa, Wanduramba, Udugama, Elpitiya, Ambalangoda, Bope Poddala and Yakkalamulla in Galle District, Henekaduwa and Ranna in Hambantota District, Kamburupitiya, Morawaka, Akuressa, Pitibeddara and Deiyandara in Matara District, and Bulathsinghala, Paragoda, Baduraliya, Galketiya, Ilukpothana, Mathugama, Pelena and Welipenna in Kalutara District.

     

    Further, naval personnel have also been deployed for flood relief duties at Wellampitiya, Nawagamuwa, Hanwella, Awissawella, Padukka, Ambatale, Kelaniya, Angoda and Kaduwela in Colombo District, town area, Div. Sec, Kalawana, Nivithigala, Eheliyagoda, Elapatha, Samandevalaya, Maragaha Junction, Ayagama, Thalduwa, Kiriella in Rathnapura District and Biyagama in Gampaha District.
     


    A total of 4,965 persons have been rescued and transferred to safe locations by the navy so far. In addition 22,003 food rations were also distributed among the affected people.
