The Polonnaruwa District Media Unit states that the Batticaloa-Polonnaruwa main road from Gallella to Manampitiya has been completely closed to all vehicles from 5.00 pm yesterday (19) due to the rising water level of the Mahaweli River.
Therefore, the Polonnaruwa District Disaster Management Unit has also announced that a train service has been established to facilitate travel for passengers traveling between Welikanda - Dimbulagala and Batticaloa.
The statement further states that the road condition will be inspected this morning and further action will be taken.
