Defence Ministry Supports War Veterans and Families on Public Day

 

The Ministry of Defence hosted its Public Day program at the Ministry premises, led by Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd.) on January 10, reaffirming its commitment to the welfare of war veterans and the families of fallen heroes. The initiative, aligned with the directives of H.E. the President and Hon. Deputy Minister of Defence, provided essential support to retired, disabled veterans, and families of the fallen.

Navy continues flood relief operations

 

As severe weather conditions threaten several areas in the island, the Sri Lanka Navy deployed 03 relief teams on 15th and 19th January 2025, to the vulnerable areas of Buddhangala in Padaviya and Aluthparagama in Mahakanadarawa belonging to the Anuradhapura district. These teams are actively engaged in disaster relief operations, working tirelessly to provide necessary aid and support to affected communities.

Flood warning for Deduru oya Basin

A considerable rainfall has been occurred in Up and mid stream areas of Deduru Oya as of 5.00 pm today. Deduru Oya reservoir is now,spilling at a rate of 16000 cubic feet per second. By analyzing that situation and river water levels of hydrological stations in Deduru 0ya, it is warned that there is a possibility of occurring a flood situation in lowline areas of Deduru Oya valley situated in Wariyapola, Nikaveratiya, Mahawa, Kobeigane, Bingiriya, Pallama, Chillaw, Arachchikattuva and Rasnayakapura DS Divisions.

As a result, there is a high possibility of inundating Off-Roads running through flood plains of Deduru Oya. It is requested to pay high attention in this regard by the residents in those area and vehicle drivers running through those areas. Disaster Management Authorities are requested to take adequate actions in this regards.

Navy stands ready with relief teams to respond flood emergency

Rainy condition is expected to continue further for the next 24 hours in Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva and Central provinces. Cloudy skies are expected over most parts of the island. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern, Eastern, North-central, Uva and Central provinces and in Hambantota district.

RO plant at Kaudulla Maha Vidyalaya, Medirigiriya declared open

 

The Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant, built as part of the Naval Social Responsibility (NSR) Project by the Navy's Research and Development Unit, was declared open at Kaudulla Maha Vidyalaya in the Divisional Secretariat of Medirigiriya yesterday (16).The project, carried out with industrial expertise of Research and Development Unit, was funded by Perera and Sons Bakers (Pvt) Limited. Also, the facility marked the 1076th unit delivered under the NSR Project.
