The Indonesian Naval Ship ‘KRI SULTAN ISKANDAR MUDA-367’ which arrived in Sri Lanka on 28th December 2024, departed the island yesterday (30th December), on successful completion of its formal visit. The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing ship at the Colombo port, following naval traditions.

The “Household Survey on the Impact of the Economic Crisis – 2023,” conducted by the Department of Census and Statistics, states that the adverse effects of the economic crisis have significantly impacted children's education. The survey reveals that 55 percent of school children have been adversely affected, with this percentage being higher in rural and estate areas. Furthermore, it was found that 53.2 percent of the affected children have either reduced or completely stopped purchasing school stationery, while 26.1 percent have resorted to re-using previously used stationery.

A total of 16 Midshipmen from the 38th (Legal) and 39th intakes of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), along with 13 Service Entry candidates, were commissioned on 28th December 2024 at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee. At the invitation of Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera, the event was graced by the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), as the Chief Guest.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya visited the Chinese Navy hospital ship "Peace Ark" at the Port of Colombo this morning (December 24) as part of its Mission Harmony-2024 initiative. The visit was attended by the Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka H.E. Qi Zhenhong and the Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr.Pradeep Saputhanthri.
