    Rains looming - Met. Dept.

    June 01, 2015

The warm weather prevailing in the country will somewhat lessen with the beginning of South-West monsoonal rains by this week, Meteorology Department said.

More showers could be expected in south-west parts of the island during the next few days.

There will be several spells of showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Thundershowers will develop at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the afternoon or evening. Strong winds can be expected over the country (particularly over hilly areas) and surrounding sea area at times.

The humidity in the atmosphere was also high these days resulting in sweating and discomfiture and the Eastern and Uva provinces recorded high temperatures over the past few days.

However, South-West monsoonal rains are expected to be active after June 4. This will result in lessening of the hot weather both in daytime and night.
