State Minister of Defence  Ruwan Wijewardene graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at an event held at the District Secretariat Office in Gampaha. Secretary to the Defence State Ministry Mr. APG Kithsiri and the Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Mrs. Anoma Fonseka were also present at the event.

Mrs. Fonseka warmly received the Chief Guest upon his arrival at the venue. Over 95 deserving children of War Heroes, who had died or sustained total disability during the war received scholarships under the programme, Defence Media reported.

Speaking at the event State Minister Wijewardene said that, as Sri Lankans we are able to enjoy the dividends of peace due to the sacrifices made by the war heroes. As a state it is our responsibility to facilitate all the war heroes and their beloved family members while looking into their necessities, he also said.

He pledged that, we continue to carry this initiative all around the island. In addition, we provide these families a 'recognition pass' in-order-to receive an expedited service from the government institutions and the private sector, he noted. Afterwards, he also lauded tri-forces personnel for the noble service that they rendered in Nepal recently.

Further he revealed that, some of the elements vested with pity political interests are now disseminating false information on serious issues. We all aware that those information are baseless, he also explained.

The aim of the project is to ensure a bright future for the children, whose parents have made the supreme sacrifice during the operation to safeguard the unity of the country.

Secretary to the Defence State Ministry Mr. APG Kithsiri, District Secretary to the Gampaha District, Ranaviru Seva Authority Officials including the Deputy Chairperson and a large gathering of Ranaviru Families were present at the event.
