    CSD holds 'Avurudu Pola'

    The Annual 'Avurudu Pola' (New Year Fair) of the Civil Security Department (CSD) was declared open yesterday (07).

    The New Year trade fair organized by the Seva Vanitha Unit of the CSD is being held in view of the traditional Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations.

     

    The trade fair was declared open by Ms. Chathurika Sirisena this morning. Director General of the CSD Mr. Chandraratne Pallegama and the President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the CSD, Mrs. Lakshmi Pallegama received the chief guest upon her arrival at the venue.

     

    Essential items including dry food stuff, fresh vegetables, fruits and other household items are being sold at special concessionary prices in order to assist the general public during this festive season. The two day fair will end today.

     

    The Civil Security Force performed an important role during the terrorist conflict. Since the end of war they have been involved in numerous development projects throughout the country. They also run many agricultural ventures.

     

    During the opening ceremony, funds collected by the Anuradhapura battalion were presented to the Seva Vanitha President Mrs. Pallegama. Funds for the housing projects carried out by the CSD were also distributed among the relevant officials, Defence Media Unit said.

     

    Chairperson of the Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) of the Ministry of Defence Mrs. S Basnayake, heads of tri forces and police SVU and senior military officers were present at the occasion.
