    Research Wing of KDU declared open

    The 'KDU CARE' Research Centre and the modernized Medical Centre of the Kotelawala Defence University were ceremonially declared open on Monday (06) by Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Mr. BMUD Basnayake who was the chief guest.

    The 'KDU CARE' Research Centre had been constructed under the first phase of the six storied Engineering Faculty complex of the KDU.

     

    The Engineering Complex is being constructed in an eco-friendly concept with special attention to utilize natural light and air flow. Once completed this facility would be the first of its kind comprehensive engineering faculty in the country to be built in keeping with the eco-friendly concept. It will house an administrative office, 16 fully equipped laboratories, auditorium, practical activity rooms and other facilities to accommodate 250 students annually.

     

    The 'KDU CARE' Research Centre can be termed as the research wing of the KDU. It includes a state of the art medical laboratory and research facilities, the Defence Media Unit reported.

     

    The Medical Centre has been upgraded with many facilities with separate wards for males and females, emergency treatment unit and modern medical equipment.

     

    Speaking at the event Mr. Basnayake said the KDU has produced many scholars and patriotic citizens who had rendered yeoman service to the nation and that some have made the supreme sacrifice in doing so. Reaffirming the role of the KDU as the national defence university in Sri Lanka he said that it is setting trends and higher standards in tertiary and higher education focusing on defence and security perspectives and the country's political and economic challenges.

     

    He appreciated the success of the KDU in attracting more than 2000 day scholars and foreign students in a short period of time and said that the KDU is fast becoming an international university.

     

    During the event a memento was presented to Mr. Basnayake by the Vice Chancellor of the KDU as a token of appreciation.

     

    Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Mr. S Hettiarachchi, Chief of Defence Staff General Jagath Jayasuriya, Vice Chancellor of the KDU Major General Milinda Peiris, members of the tutorial staff, tri forces officers and distinguished invitees were present at the occasion.
