    A'pura Paddy Cultivation under Parachute System

    The Government has taken steps to cultivate paddy in 200,000 acres under the parachute system in Anuradhapura district, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation said. The special feature under this cultivation plan is to grow traditional native paddy in 2,000 acres in the district under the newly promoted parachute cultivation system.

    According to the Ministry, 600 agriculture research and production assistants, 100 agriculture instructors, 50 district agriculture officers and 693 Grama Niladharis are being made aware and trained to help farmers to take to the parachute system cultivation to be adopted in the Anuradhapura district on a large scale.

     

    A one day workshop on this will be held on April 6 at the Minister's Anuradhapura office.

     

    In Yala 2015, paddy would be cultivated in 2,000 acres expanding to 693 Grama Niladari divisions in the district.
