The government has pledged to reduce taxes on all fishing gears within the 100-day programme and thereby grant relief to the fisher community.
Accordingly, the fishermen will get an opportunity to purchase all their requirements including fishing nets and engines at low prices, the Minister of Fisheries Joseph Michael Perera assured when he met a group of representatives of Fisheries Associations of Negombo at the Negombo Cooperative Association hall.
The Minister also joined in the distribution of fisheries gear among the fishermen.
