Sri Lanka Scout Association’s Batticaloa District Commissioner P. Anandaraja unveiled and garlanded the statue followed by religious observances by Hindu, Catholic and Islamic religious dignitaries.
Marking the occasion, the Scouts and Girl Guides went in procession from the venue along the Batticaloa clock tower road up to the Government Teachers Training College.
The Sri Lanka Scout Association, the national Scouting organization of Sri Lanka, was founded in 1912, and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1953. The Ceylon Scout Council was incorporated by the Act No 13 of 1957.
