    Educational Scholarships to Jaffna Re-settled Community Children

    Educational scholarships were awarded to more than four hundred school children in the Jaffna region at a function held at the Weerasingham Hall in Jaffna recently 

    This scholarship scheme is a Sri Lanka Army initiated project with fund collected from officers and troops serving in Security Forces Headquarters- Jaffna region who showed enthusiasm to reach out and assist deserving children of the resettled tamil community to acquire a good education. Recipients were selected with the assistance of school principals and Gramaseva officers.
     
     
    Accordingly, 418 students selected from low income families in the Peninsula received  scholarships, each worth Rs. 9,000. The scholarships will enable each recipient to draw a sum of Rs. 750.00 each month towards their educational requirements. 
     
     
    The awarding ceremony was held under the patronage of Nellai Atheenam, Srilasri Somasunthara Thesika Paramacharya Swamigal, and Security Forces Commander- Jaffna Major General Jagath Alwis. School principals, teachers, students and parents of the children were present at the occasion.
