Scholarships were awarded to 216 students who scored the highest marks at the Year 5 Scholarship examination held in 2014.
Under the Hapan programme the first place was secured by W.A.Venuja NImsath of Embilipitiya Junior Primary School in the Ratnapura District and the second place by H.M.M.Nethmal Thilakarathne of Royal Junior School in Polonnaruwa District. The third places were secured by P.P.S.Yashodara Gunasekera of Bemmulla Pitiyegedera Primary School in Gampaha District and M.N.Fathima Samaha of Mawanelle Zahira Central College in the Kegalle District.
The winners are being picked amongst account holders of 'Hapan', a Children's Savings Account for small ones in the age group 7 to 16 years.
Education Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayake, National Savings Bank Chairman W.A.Nalini and Working Director Sumanadasa Abeygunawardena, were present.(KH)
