The program was launched to discuss the SLFP’s future course of action and matters pertaining to the people. There were 138 meetings of electoral representatives, 124 meetings of women’s organisations and 232 meetings of youth organisations. An unprecedented number participated in these conferences which were the most attractive gathering in the history of the SLFP.
Nearly 3,000 had attended the electoral and women’s representatives’ meetings. A total of 316,505 had participated in the 138 meetings of the electoral representatives. The number participated in the 124 women’s organisations meetings was 265,555. In the youth meetings representing 45 electorates the number of participants was 228,090. Under this program the party’s organisations representing women, youth, clergy, lawyers, teachers, farmers and ayurvedic physicians have been reorganized.Among those who addressed the 494 conferences were Ministers, MPs, intellectuals, academics, lawyers and heads of organisations.
Last year’s ‘a blue wave’ program to recruit members to the SLFP was launched under the Party’s National Organizer Basil Rajapaksa’s direction. The number of persons who obtained membership was 2.3 million, which was ‘a blue wave’, exceeding the anticipated target. (HC/SDF)
