The theme of this year’s programme was “Daughter, you are our Future”. A series of special lectures on this theme were also delivered by several resource persons. The subjects discussed were “Changing the attitudes of girls through aesthetics”, “Health problems of adolescent girls”, Health problems of the Nuwara Eliya Estate community” and “Personal problems that are in abeyance in adolescent children”.
“Girls should be diverted to aesthetics through which they would achieve mental and physical discipline” was a subject which was brought into focus at this workshop.
The International Day of the Girl Child was declared by the United Nations at the end of the year 2011.(NJ/KH)
