According to world University rankings, six Sri Lankan Universities are among the top 100 Universities in the South Asian region. Expressing views in this respect, Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake said that a programme is in place to bring forward the Universities in Sri Lanka to the lead not only in the South Asian region but also among the rankings in the world.
The Colombo University has been ranked 24th in South Asia while Peradeniya and Moratuwa Universities have ascended to the 31st and 32nd places in South Asia. Sri Jayawardanepura University was in fourth place which is 51st in the region. The Kelaniya University and Ruhuna University have achieved 56th and 70th place in South Asia.
