    Space Technology Application for Drought Monitoring Regional Workshop begins today Featured

    A regional workshop on Space Technology Applications for Drought Monitoring and Early Warning will be held at the Mount Lavinia Hotel from July 1 to 2.

     

    The event has been organised by the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies (ACCIMT) in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) under its space technology capacity development initiative known as 'The Regional Cooperative Mechanism for Drought Monitoring and Early Warning'.

     

    Sri Lanka has been selected as a pilot country to implement the 5-year plan of the above space technology based drought monitoring initiative.

     

    The main objective of this workshop is to review the Regional Drought Mechanism and its operations, evaluate the success and key outcomes of the pilot activities in Sri Lanka and other countries, and identify the needs of operationalising drought monitoring, in other pilot countries in the region.

     

    The workshop will be held under the auspices of Minister of Technology and Research Patali Champika Ranawaka.
