    Fallen War Heroes Remembered in Jaffna

    Commander and all ranks of Security Force – Jaffna, after an whole night pirith chanting and alms giving to bhikkus, transferred merits to armed force members who laid their lives for the sake of the country and invoked blessing to Commander of the Army, soldiers and members of civilian staff serving in the Army Friday (27) morning.

     

    The Pinkama was organized with auspices of Commander Security Force Jaffna Major General Udaya Perera as the final leg of 18th Anniversary celebrations of Security Force Jaffna (SF-J). Monks headed by Ven. Naramdeniye Dhammawasa thero, Head of Boraluketiya Buddhist centre of Kamburupitiya, Matara chanted pirith on 26th night. Members of Maha Sangha were fetched to the Pirith Octagan in a glamorous procession comprising cultural performances. Ven. Meegahajandure Siriwimala thero of Sri Naga Vihara, Jaffna who welcomed clergy prior to pirith, explained the purpose of the religious function organized by the SF-J.

     

    The following day morning, heel dana (alms) was offered to 65 bhikkus including Mahanayaka thero of Asgisriya chapter Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhita thero who, during the sermon at alms giving, remembered noble sacrifices of security Forces members and appreciated the noble deed of SF-J organized to transfer merits to their brother war heroes.

     

    Buddhist monks of Asgiriya and Malwatta maha vihara and various temples and Buddhist centres in the island attended the function. Atapirikara and other pirikara were offered to all bhikkus by the Commander SF-J and officers and other ranks.
