He said the decision had been taken on the instructions of Chief Public Health Inspector of Galle Venura Singarachchi, who had warned of a possible outbreak of foot-and-mouth diseases among the hoofed animals in the areas.
The disease could have been propelled by the recent floods, Seneviratne, said adding that the Galle Municipal Council’s PHIs would commence inspecting meat stalls from today (16).
