ICGS Vaibhav calls the port of Colombo

Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) Vaibhav made a port call at Colombo yesterday (Dec 23) as part of her overseas deployment to the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), visited the ICGS Vaibhav yesterday evening.

Major General Jayasekara (Retd) was received by the Commanding Officer of the ship, Commandant Navtej Singh Sohal upon his arrival on board ship. The High Commissioner of India in Colombo H.E. Santosh Jha was also present at the occasion.

The visit of this Indian Coast Guard Ship is significant in view of the potential for maritime cooperation between India and Sri Lanka for augmenting the capabilities of Sri Lanka Coast Guard for efficiently addressing shared challenges for maritime security in the region.

The Commanding Officer of the ship presented a memento to the Deputy Minister of Defence to mark his visit on board ship.

Commanders of the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force, Tri-Forces officers and the Defence Adviser (DA) to the High Commission of India were also present at the occasion.
