The OMP was established in February 2018 to tracethe fate or whereabouts of missing and disappeared persons as identified under the OMP Act and
protect the rights and interests of such persons and their families. The OMP began its outreachprogramme in May 2018, with meetings held in Mannar, Matara, Mullativu, Trincomalee, Jaffna and
Kilinochchi. The OMP will visit other districts over the coming weeks.
The seven commissioners of the OMP met with families of the missing and disappeared, civil societyorganisations, activists working on the issue of disappearances, the media and the public servants
to share the OMP’s organisational plan and strategies.
The meetings also provided the OMP with anopportunity to hear the public’s views in order to incorporate their suggestions in the structure andoperations of the OMP.The meeting in Colombo will commence at 3.30 p.m. and be held at the Lakshman KadirgamarInstitute of International Relations and Strategic Studies (LIGHT HOUSE) located at No 24, HortonPlace, Colombo 07.
