The team that came to that conclusion includes Megan Doppler and Esteban Fernandez-Juricic from Purdue University and Bradley Blackwell and Travis DeVault from National Wildlife Research Center.
The scientists conducted a series of experiments involving cowbirds and remote-controlled aircraft to find out how the birds reacted to a variety of lights.
Doppler and his colleagues determined that the blue light, with a wavelength of 470 nm would be most clearly visible to birds
During the experiments,it was found that when blue lights were on, the birds became alert more quickly.
The birds avoided approaching the aircraft. Therefore by adding blue lights to aircraft the number of collisions could be reduced, said Doppler.
