    Dhaka-bound express train attacked

    February 09, 2015

    Unrest continues in Bangladesh

Amid continuing unrest in Bangladesh, the Dhaka-Kolkata ‘Maitree Express’ train was attacked with petrol bombs triggering fresh concerns for the security of passengers.

Railway officials and the police confirmed that unidentified people hurled several petrol bombs at the Dhaka-bound train near the Ishwardi railway station in northern Pabna district on Sunday afternoon. However, the attack caused only minor damage and no one was injured, TheHindu reported.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Shyamoli Paribahan, the largest bus company, suspended its service between Dhaka and Agartala for an indefinite period following growing attacks on buses by the anti-government activists. The Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) had already suspended its service for the route. The death toll in the continuing arson attacks in the country has risen to 68. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government would not “surrender” to the terror tactics. However, the government indicated that talks could be possible with the BNP, led by Khaleda Zia, “if the countrywide violence stops.”
