    Strong Winter Storm Hit Northeast USA

    Washington, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) About 4.000 commercial airline flights were canceled Monday (26), due to the strong winter storm that affected U.S. states of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland and other areas of the country's northeast.

    According to the National Meteorological Service, the effects of the storm are expected to be more severe, and it could bury some communities from the northern New Jersey to the south of the state of Maine, where it is expected the drop of up to two meters of snow.
     
    The weather phenomenon will bring winds and penetrations of the sea in low-lying areas, as well as intensive  snowfalls in a segment of 400 km between the cities of New York and Boston.
     
    ccording to the forecasts, in Boston will fall more than 90cm of snow, while in Philadelphia could reach 46cm and in general gusts of winds of more than 120km per hour in the region.
     
    The governor of Massachusetts, Charlie Baker, warned residents to prepare for possible road closures, power outages or even total absence of public transport.
     

    Spokesmen for the White House indicated that the president Barack Obama, on a visit to India, has been informed about this situation, at the same time that administration officials kept in contact with the authorities of the affected territories.
